SUMMARY:Annotations at the W3C
DESCRIPTION:A dedicated group of individuals worked diligently toward a web annotation standard — the idea being that annotation is something that will be fundamental to the future of the web and should be interoperable\, and eventually incorporated into browsers. The first chance for a face to face meeting of this new group came during the 2014 W3C TPAC meeting in Santa Clara\, California\, October 27-31. This year also happened to be particularly special in that it was the 25th anniversary of the web and the 20th anniversary of the W3C. \nWe decided to take advantage of the opportunity to capture the insights of some of the key people working on annotation standards\, those who have a historical perspective on how we got here\, and why it’s important — including the inventor of the web and the Director of the W3C\, Sir Tim Berners-Lee\, who mentioned annotation as one of the web’s requirements in his initial proposal in 1989. Learn more and watch the video on our companion blog post.

SUMMARY:Climate Annotation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ClimateFeedback.org aims to organize the community of climate scientists to annotate online media and provide readers and authors with in-situ feedback about the scientific credibility of information. Our own Dan Whaley spoke at the Climate Feedback workshop on December 18th. The following morning\, Hypothesis hosted a morning annotation meet-up at the Hypothesis Project HQ @ Pier 26. Attendees joined climate scientists & communication experts at the workshop to learn more about the initiative\, and they attended the morning annotation meet-up to help annotate climate related content and help discover (or build!) features needed for the Climate Feedback project. SUMMARY:A Coalition for Scholarly Annotation
DESCRIPTION:The Annotating all Knowledge coalition gathered in Portland to begin the work of defining\, designing\, and implementing a common framework for scholarly collaboration. Members of the coalition include publishers\, platform providers\, librarians\, standards makers\, and technologists who share a common interest in annotation of all scholarly content for the benefit of scientists\, humanists\, students\, teachers\, and citizens. The goals of the workshop were to review existing uses of annotation\, discuss anticipated uses\, consider opportunities and challenges from the perspective of both publishers and implementers\, converge on a definition of interoperability\, and identify next steps. SUMMARY:Webinar: Annotation for Publishers
DESCRIPTION:In our first webinar dedicated to annotation for publishers\, we posed 10 questions you should ask about annotation. During the webinar\, former Director of Partnerships Heather Staines and CEO Dan Whaley talked about how Hypothesis answers those questions for publishers as the provider of an open\, interoperable annotation platform. The webinar also included an exploration of specific annotation use cases in publishing\, a live demonstration of Hypothesis capabilities\, how Hypothesis works with our publishing partners\, and questions and answers with attendees. \nVisit our companion blog post\, watch the recording on YouTube\, and view or download the slides to learn more about digital annotation for publishers.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Implementing Hypothesis for Publishers
DESCRIPTION:In our second webinar dedicated to annotation for publishers\, on 8 September 2017\, we focused on how easy it is to integrate annotation into publications. During the webinar\, former Director of Partnerships Heather Staines and Director of Marketing Nate Angell talked about how to embed annotation in any platform or website and more advanced support and customization options with Hypothesis. Participants had plenty of questions\, so more than half of the recording is Heather and Nate discussing a variety of topics related to making annotation a central part of publications and the publishing process. \nWatch the recording on YouTube and view or download the slides to learn more about integrating annotation into your publications. SUMMARY:Webinar: Custom Annotation Groups for Publishers With Hypothesis
DESCRIPTION:This webinar focused on ways to use open\, restricted\, and private groups to support different annotation use cases with your publication using Hypothesis. Moderator Heather Staines\, our former Director of Partnerships\, explored how Hypothesis collaborates with publishers to support and host annotations that enable authors\, editors\, invited experts\, and readers to engage in discussion directly on a publication’s version of record. The webinar covered all you need to know to implement annotation\, including key publisher use cases\, the benefits of interoperable\, standards-based annotation\, a demo of annotation capabilities\, an overview of options\, including annotation groups\, and how to get started working with Hypothesis. We also had plenty of time to discuss questions and implementation scenarios with attendees. \nWatch the webinar on YouTube and view or download the slides to learn more about annotation with Hypothesis\, and about group options and integrating annotation into your publications.
