SUMMARY:Liquid Margins 25: Empowering Student Writing With Social Annotation
DESCRIPTION:On Liquid Margins “Empowering Student Writing With Social Annotation\,” we’re joined on screen by Mary Traester from the University of Southern California\, Noel Holton Brathwaite from Farmingdale State College\, and Chris Kervina from Northern Virginia Community College. Our guests are professional colleagues and writing collaborators who champion social annotation for student success in reading and writing. \nNote: Liquid Margins is a show where we gather to talk about collaborative annotation\, social learning\, and other ways we make knowledge together. If you’d like to learn more about Hypothesis and see a demo\, register for an upcoming Hypothesis 101 webinar or watch a Hypothesis 101 recording. \nAnnotate the video transcript while you watch

SUMMARY:AnnotatED Workshop with Rajiv Jhangiani at OLC Accelerate 2021
DESCRIPTION:Making reading active\, visible\, and social with collaborative annotationIn collaboration with the Online Learning Consortium and AnnotatED\, the community for annotation in education\, on Friday\, 17 Sep 2021\, Hypothesis convened a free virtual workshop on social annotation to kick off OLC Accelerate 2021. \nThe workshop started with a quick orientation to collaborative annotation for social reading: What is it\, and how are people using it to enrich online\, face-to-face\, and hybrid learning? \nThen we shifted to a hands-on activity to explore\, discuss\, and augment readings selected by our special guest educator\, Dr. Rajiv Jhangiani\, Associate Vice President\, Teaching and Learning at Kwantlen Polytechnic University\, focused on topics related to his OLC Accelerate 2021 keynote: 20/21: A Pedagogical Odyssey. \nWe practiced reading together to see firsthand how social annotation can build understanding\, connections\, and community. Our conversation was anchored in text — literally — and spread out to engage other texts\, ideas\, and people beyond the workshop itself. \nSelected readingsFor our collaborative annotation before\, during\, and after the workshop\, Dr. Jhangiani selected his KPU colleague Jennifer Hardwick’s post\, “Now Is the Time To Be Brave: Pedagogy for a World in Transition\,” which resonates with the theme of his OLC Accelerate 2021 keynote: 20/21: A Pedagogical Odyssey. You can read Hardwick’s post and annotations already added to its margins\, and join the conversation by creating a free Hypothesis account and reply to or post your own annotations. \nWorkshop recording & resourcesView\, download\, and reuse slides from the workshop presentation and explore links shared during the workshop by presenters and participants: \nHypothesis resources\n\nGuide to engage in events with Hypothesis social annotation\nCreate a free individual Hypothesis account\nGet Hypothesis in your school’s learning management system\nAnnotation Tips for Students\nAn Illustrated Taxonomy of Annotation Types\nHypothesis for Education\n\nOther resources\n\nEmily Wilson’s 2018 translation of Homer’s Odyssey\nRemi Kalir’s latest post on annotating the syllabus\nRobin DeRosa’s blog and website\nOpen Anthology of Earlier American Literature\nRajiv Jhangiani’s blog and website
