People Operations Manager (Remote)

Location: Remote with preference given to candidates between UTC+2 and UTC-8

We are seeking a passionate and proactive People Operations Manager to join our team. The People Operations Manager will join as our first hire in a People Ops specific role and will manage the day-to-day Human Resources function, including but not limited to payroll and benefits administration, employee relations, onboarding, disembarkation, legal compliance, and recruiting coordination. Thriving in a fast-paced startup environment, this new team member will jump into any and all HR functions and exercise a broad range of skills to continuously build stronger processes.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment, Onboarding, and Disembarkation:

  • Manage the full recruitment cycle, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and extending offers.
  • Oversee onboarding and disembarkation programs to ensure smooth transitions. 

Employee Relations and Engagement:

  • Act as a primary contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance and support.
  • Develop and institute initiatives to improve camaraderie and engagement in our remote team.
  • Maintain positive relations with all employees and promote a supportive, high-performance culture.
  • Plan and coordinate team off-sites, monthly all-hands meetings, and company-wide email digests.

HR Administration and Compliance:

  • Maintain and update employee records, ensuring data accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, national, and international laws with regard to employee hiring and retention procedures.
  • Coordinate with PEOs (TriNet and Remote.com) to manage benefits, payroll, and HR compliance.

Performance Management: 

  • Support the performance review process, including goal setting, feedback, and development plans.
  • Assist managers with addressing performance issues and implementing performance improvement plans.

HR Projects and Initiatives:

  • Improve, update, and maintain the employee handbook and all internal policies, documentation and company guidelines on an ongoing basis, ensuring they reflect current practices and legal requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain People Ops KPIs and provide reports to company leadership on analytics.
  • Support compensation planning, including salary benchmarking and structure development.
  • Create, publish, and manage both internal and external job descriptions.
  • Collaborate with company leadership to audit current HR systems for gaps and inefficiencies, lead and develop more scalable processes, and implement personnel policies and programs.

 

About You

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous work experience in a HR or People Operations role, preferably in a startup or remote company. 
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws for a global remote company. 
  • Agility to thrive at an early-stage company
  • Detail-oriented, and well organized.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a 100% remote environment.
  • Ability to diagnose and preempt challenges and strategize solutions for HR matters
  • Tech-savvy: comfortable using a variety of software tools in daily activities including, but not limited to, Google and Microsoft apps and HR Software. 
  • Excellent English language communication skills (both speaking and writing)
  • Team mindset – able to effectively work with team members across all functional areas of the business to achieve shared goals and objectives
  • Handling of confidential information with absolute integrity and discretion at all times.
