Great news! Hypothesis is now LTI Advantage compliant — certified by 1EdTech (formerly known as IMS Global). LTI stands for Learning Tools Interoperability, and what this certification means is that across all major learning management systems (LMSs), like Canvas and Blackboard, we support the LTI 1.3 core specification. In short, we are providing a more secure way for an LMS to integrate with external learning tools. We also support the LTI Advantage add-on services, laying the foundation for new features that will roll out with the same level of LTI compliance.

Whether you are a new or existing customer, please reach out to us to schedule an install of a new instance of the LTI Advantage version of the Hypothesis app. Doing so will provide instructors and students a more secure way to engage in social learning, and it will ensure that they’re getting all of our new features, plus any we add in the future.

We’ll be rolling this out gradually to interested institutions to ensure that we can provide adequate customer support during the installation process and monitor the user experience.

At Hypothesis, we view the LTI Advantage certification as the next step in a tradition of championing security and openness through web standards. It’s for this same reason that we stewarded the W3C Web Annotation standard and are deeply invested in the Social Learning Across Content coalition (SLAC).

We’re excited by the innovation happening within the LTI community and proud to support its continued evolution.
