Finding the Hypothesis LMS app in your course

When the Hypothesis LMS app is available in your course, course instructors should be able to find the app among the installed external tools. This location is different for each LMS; below we feature screenshots and instructions to help you check if Hypothesis is available to you.

Assignments

When creating an assignment, choose the “External Tool” submission type and click “Find”.

Then search the list of tools to see if Hypothesis is there.

Module items

In a new Module item, select “External Tool” from the drop-down menu at the top of the Add Module Item screen.

Content items in Blackboard Learn Original

Select “Content” from the Blackboard sidebar, click “Build Content” and search for “Hypothesis” in the menu.

If you do not see Hypothesis listed in the menu, you may need to first make the tool visible by selecting Customization > Tool Availability from the sidebar, locating Hypothesis in the list, and checking the box to make Hypothesis Available In Content Area.

From the Course Content page, click on the plus (+) icon to show the Create Content menu. Select Content Market.

Newer Hypothesis installs

In the Content area of your course click on the Add Existing Activities drop-down and then search for the Hypothesis tool.

Older Hypothesis installs

In the Content area of your course, navigate to the Module or course area where you’d like to add your Hypothesis-enabled reading. Click on the Add Existing Activities drop-down and select External Learning Tools from the menu.

On the Add Activity dialog, click the Create New LTI Link button (you may have to scroll down).

Enter one of the following URLs, and then click outside the text box. If the “Tool” box changes to say “Hypothesis” the tool is installed.

  • Worldwide
    • https://lms.hypothes.is/lti_launches
  • Canada only
    • https://lms.ca.hypothes.is/lti_launches

As its own Activity (newer versions of Moodle)

Navigate to your course page in Moodle and click the button in the upper-right to enable Edit mode.

Select the link to “Add an activity or resource” and search for the Hypothesis tool.

In External Tool activities (older versions of Moodle)

Navigate to your course page in Moodle, click the button in the upper-right to Turn editing on.

Select the link to “Add an activity or resource”.

In the “Add an activity” window, select “External tool”.

Click the “Preconfigured tool” menu and search for Hypothesis.

Lessons

Navigate to the Lessons tool and click on the Add Content button at the top of the page.
